My family conspired against me, voted Peter Obi – Umahi

Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi has made a surprising claim that his own family conspired against him and voted for the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 25 February presidential election in the state. This revelation was made during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Monday night.

Umahi who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed surprise that even members of his own family voted for Mr. Obi, but he explained that he did not give the LP and other political parties an opportunity to win any election in the state because of the work he had done there.

During the election, Ebonyi State was considered one of Mr. Obi’s strongholds because he hails from the South-east region. In the election, the LP candidate polled a total of 252,738 votes, defeating Mr. Tinubu of the APC in Ebonyi State. The APC candidate came in second with 42,402 votes in the state. Mr. Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, enjoyed swelling support mainly in the South-east during the exercise.

It remains to be seen if there will be any consequences for Governor Umahi’s family over their alleged support for the LP candidate. However, this revelation adds another layer of intrigue to an already contentious election in Nigeria.
