The First Lady of Ebonyi State, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has officially kicked off the 2023 Mass Literacy Campaign in the state.
The campaign was inaugurated at the Women Development Centre in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Tuesday, Nwifuru called on the chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas in the state to actively monitor and supervise the campaigns at the grassroots level.
First Lady Nwifuru stated, “the programme is aimed at igniting the spark of knowledge, empowering individuals, transforming lives, and achieving education for all. I appreciate the present administration in the state for the commitment shown so far in the cause of mass literacy, which in turn has prepared a solid ground for education to be accessible and affordable by all.”
“The campaign is a resolute commitment towards ensuring that no one is left behind in the Ebonyi project. The Mass Literacy programme will be devoid of discrimination of any sort. So, I call on the Council Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, and Donor Agencies to partner with the Government in prosecuting the Education for All programme so as to fill the gap of ignorance; enhance economic development; women empowerment; and then, foster civic engagement.”
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Paul Nwaobashi, who chaired the occasion, expressed gratitude to the governor and the First Lady for revitalizing adult education in the state. He affirmed that “the initiative will be given adequate attention and go a long way in facilitating the all-round development of the state. We thank the governor and his wife for reactivating adult education, which is crucial for the growth of our communities.”
The launch of the 2023 Mass Literacy Campaign reflects the government’s dedication to providing quality education opportunities for all citizens, promoting literacy, and uplifting communities in Ebonyi State. With the involvement of local authorities and partners, this initiative is poised to empower individuals and pave the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for the state.
