Ebonyi State Approves Recruitment of 39 Doctors and 156 Health Workers to Revamp Health System

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has granted authorization for the hiring of an impressive number of medical professionals, including 39 doctors and 156 other essential healthcare workers. This momentous decision comes in response to a pressing issue of manpower shortage and a dilapidated healthcare system that has plagued the state’s 13 General Hospitals since 2015.

Up until now, the entire state had a meager count of merely six doctors on its payroll, exacerbating the dire circumstances. However, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, issued a statement on Sunday, formally announcing the recruitment initiative.

Dr. Uzor expressed, “As a testament to his unwavering commitment to revitalizing the healthcare sector, the esteemed Governor of Ebonyi, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has expeditiously sanctioned the immediate enlistment of medical personnel for all thirteen General Hospitals within the State.”

The statement went on to provide a detailed breakdown of the intended recruitment, stating, “The recruitment drive will encompass thirty-nine Medical Doctors, thirty-nine Nurses, thirty-nine Laboratory Scientists, thirty-nine Pharmacists, and thirty-nine Health Attendants.”

To ensure swift action, Governor Nwifuru has instructed the Head of Service and the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission to promptly initiate the recruitment process, targeting highly qualified medical professionals to fill the existing vacancies.

This landmark decision marks a significant turning point for the healthcare system in Ebonyi State, as the influx of new doctors and healthcare workers promises to alleviate the prevailing shortages and revive the state’s ailing medical infrastructure.
