Council Chairman Inaugurates Committee to Probe Ishiagu Women Riot and Property Destruction

Emmanuel Ajah, the Council Chairman of Ivo local government area in Ebonyi State, has established a committee to investigate the underlying causes of the Ishiagu women riot and the subsequent destruction of property belonging to community stakeholders. This riot occurred as a result of alleged frequent kidnapping and rape incidents in the area, which led to a protest by over one hundred women and girls.

On Wednesday, Ajah inaugurated a nine-member committee at the Ivo council headquarters. The committee’s main task is to uncover the reasons behind the riot and the destruction of valuable properties belonging to influential individuals in the community. Additionally, they are to address the power struggle within the Ishiagu community development union (ICDU), which has negatively impacted the community’s political and economic well-being.

Ajah also charged the committee with employing all viable strategies to tackle the various security challenges confronting Ishiagu community, including kidnapping, theft, instability, riots, drug abuse, and unrest.

The committee consists of Mazi Iwuchukwu Onu as the Chairman, Okochi Louis as the Secretary, and members such as Chibuike Onu, Jude Ajah, Churchill Ukason, Christian Ngele, Silas Chukwu, Ajah Christopher, and Paul Chukwu.
