Nigerians Fault INEC over PVCs Collection, Request Extension of Deadline

The Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC) in Nigeria has faced criticism from citizens over the difficulties they have experienced in obtaining their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs).

The distribution of the PVCs, which began on December 12 at local government offices and on January 6 at the wards, has been described as disorganized and chaotic, with reports of officials accepting bribes in exchange for facilitating the collection of PVCs.

Some citizens have also reported waiting for hours at distribution centers without being able to obtain their PVCs, and there are concerns that the poor organization of the process will result in many voters being disenfranchised. They, therefore, called for INEC to extend the January 22 deadline for obtaining PVCs to February to allow more people to collect their cards.
