On Thursday, just three days after four people were killed and dumped near the Nkwo Ogbe market in Ihiala, gunmen killed three members of the community’s vigilante group and a member of a joint military/police patrol team.
The attackers also set fire to five buildings at the headquarters of Ihiala’s local government area. One of the murdered vigilante operatives was beheaded and had his head removed.
The incident caused chaos in the entire local government area, causing a traffic jam on the Onitsha-Owerri road.
The Anambra State Police command confirmed the incident and stated that a heavy operation is currently underway in the area.
