The Ebonyi State Independent  Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), has rescheduled the State chairman-ship and councillorship election to 30th July 2022.

The election was initially slated to hold on 23rd July this year.

The Chairman of EBSIEC Barrister Jossy Eze, made the disclosure at the Commission Headquarters abakaliki at the weekend, during an enlarged meeting with Chairmen and Secretaries of all registered political parties, security agencies and major stakeholders in the electoral process.

According to the EBSIEC boss “the meeting was convened to inform political parties of the slight change in date of the election  from 23rd July to 30th July 2022”

He opined, “the electlion was shifted by 7-Days, we assure all the political parties of a free, fair and credible process during the exercise”

Barrister Eze said that the Guidelines for the election would be made  available to the political parties by Monday.

In their contributions, the leadership of various political parties appealed for reductions in the cost of Forms and called for fairness in the process.

In an interview, the Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi on Inter-party and Labour Matters Mrs Jennifer Adibe Nwafor, reiterated that the meeting had proved that EBSIEC was committed to transparency and Due Process during the election.

“The essence of this meeting is for inclusiveness of other political

parties,  it shows the election  is not for one-party system”

Also contributing, Hon Pastor Kelechi Nnachi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), commended the Commission  for convoking the meeting .

He expressed optimism that EBSIEC would conduct a free, fair and credible poll.

The meeting had in attendance representative of security agencies and Executive of political parties   comprising All Progressive Congress (APC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Labour Party (LP), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) among others
