There were heavy gunshots at the Peoples Democratic Party Secretariat, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Tuesday evening, May 3, following the three-man delegate election billed across the state’s 171 political wards.

In a statement, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Nwoba Chika, stated that the three-man delegate election could not take place in Ebonyi due to concerns the party needed to resolve in the state, and that the poll will take place on Tuesday.

However, due to a reported chairmanship tussle between Tochukwu Okorie and Silas Onu, the three-man delegate election could not take place last Saturday, according to reporters.

Due to a variety of obstacles, the three-man delegate election scheduled for Tuesday may not take place.

Aspirants, their supporters, and other party stakeholders who arrived at the party’s Secretariat extremely early on Tuesday in the hopes of seeing the three-man delegate election committee were disappointed.

Only one of the gubernatorial aspirants, Sen. Obinna Ogba, was seen standing outside the Secretariat with his supporters on Tuesday evening.

The three-man delegate election committee was also said to have been kidnapped in Enugu while on their route to Ebonyi.

Due to the tense atmosphere, a misunderstanding ensued among party supporters, and heavy gunshots were heard at the party’s secretariat.
