ABAKALIKI – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) renewed interrogation of a former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, in a case of alleged corruption and diversion of public funds tends to have ruffled the Ebonyi state chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Whereas a chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State in the just concluded State Congress, Barrister Silas Onu said that the trial was a nemesis against the former Senate President, Hon. Linus Okorie said it was politically motivated.
A team of the Anti-Graft operatives was reported to have quizzed the former Senate President at Jabi in Abuja over rehabilitation funds worth 780 million naira allegedly traced to a company in which he has an interest.
Onu who was the former caretaker publicity Secretary of Ebonyi PDP noted that God was fighting his battle over the ungodly things which Senator Anyim allegedly committed during the last PDP Congress in the State against him.
“God is fighting my battle Anyim has killed PDP in Ebonyi State even to the extent of cooking lies against me”.
Another Chieftain of the PDP and former member of Federal House of Representatives, Hon Linus Okorie added that Anyim’s case was politically motivated.
Okorie said that though there was nothing to worry about the case, but the former Secretary to the Federal Government must have stepped on toes on the zoning of the chairmanship position of PDP to the North, which must have angered his political associates.
Okorie said: “We believe that it was politically motivated. Anyim is today one of the leading lights of PDP in the South East and of the major contenders in the zone in the even where PDP zones the Presidential position to the South East which is likely anyway.”
“The invitation is political. Of course you know that the case is a fallout of Senator Stella Odua’s investigation. Who knows why she has defected to APC. It may still be a pressure on the side of Anyim but it will come to pass.”
