2 Umahi’s Cabinet Members Who Tested Positive to COVID-19, Discharged

Two prominent cabals in governor David Umahi’s administration of Ebonyi state, a commissioner and principal secretary who tested positive to COVID-19, on Monday has been restored to health and discharged.

The COVID-19 victims; Prof. Ogbonnaya Chukwu who is the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development and Mr. Clement Nweke Principal Secretary to the Governor tested positive to the virus recently and was quarantined at the virology centre located at Federal medical centre, FTHA 2 Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital.

Recall that the governor, David Umahi had as a result of the development and contraction of the virus by the two prominent aides decided to shutdown government house offices, including the offices of the affected persons for seven days.

The Governor also directed the staffs and civil servants working under the both effected victim to proceed for immediate isolation to avert the spread of the virus to other innocent citizens of the state.

Ebonyi News Network gathered that both Prof. Chukwu and Nweke who tested positive earlier, was quarantined for one week and have been retested after treatment and it came out Negative.

Speaking to Journalists, during their discharge at the virology centre; Mr Nweke (the principal secretary) noted that his contraction of the virus remains a mystery to him.

He narrated further how he got sick to the extent that the medical team had to use oxygen to stabilize his health condition among other things.

He also debunked the rumour making the round in the state that some members of his family was affected,especially his younger brother Prof. Eugene Nweke who is a Dean to post graduate school, Ebonyi State University Abakaliki.

He stated further that his brother was tested by the Medical team and it came out negative.

Although, Prof. Eugene who was at the centre during the discharge also told Journalists that he tested negative as the doctors confirmed.

On his part, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development Prof. Ogbonnaya Chukwu while speaking to Journalists at the centre confirmed that his wife and his son tested positive to the virus but thank God that they have been restored to health and now normal.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, who monitored the discharged, thanked God for the survival of the two government officials.

Umezurike further urged the general public to continue to obey NCDC safety protocols.
