Umahi Inaugurates Committee to Probe ex- SSG over N2bn Loan

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has set up a judicial Commission of Inquiry on the disbursement and management of N2 billion commercial Agriculture loan scheme by the former secretary to the government (SSG), Bernard Odoh, in 2016.

Inaugurating the panel at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government house, Abakalkki yesterday, Umahi stated that the inquiry is to investigate the N2 billion CBN Commercial Agriculture scheme loan which the Former Secretary to the State Government, Prof Bernard Odoh headed.

Alongside the N2bn Loan, other funds that would be investigated by the Commission includes, bailout funds, budget support, infrastructure support and Paris Club refunds to the state.

Recall that in 2016, that the State Government had set up an executive Council Committee, headed by the former SSG for the disbursement of the N2 billion CBN agriculture scheme loan.

Governor Umahi has recently alleged that the funds were misappropriated and the intended beneficiaries were schemed out, adding that there was need to probe the committee and recover the funds.

Umahi urged the committee not to witch-hunt anybody as the purpose of the commission was to investigate and recover the missing funds.

Meanwhile, prof Prof Bernard Odoh has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC, to investigate the committee on the disbursement of the funds, stressing that he had no confidence in the judicial panel set up by the governor.
