Ebonyi records 3rd index case of COVID-19

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state at the weekend has announced the confirmation of the 3rd COVID 19 case in the state.

Umahi made this known in a live broadcast on Friday night that took place at the state new government house, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.

He noted that the patient is a 25 year old Man, one Emeka Nwite who hails from Odoke in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.

He stressed that the patient, Mr. Emeka resides at Santana Area in Lagos and sells telephone accessories at Ojota in Lagos state.

The governor revealed that Emeka boarded a vehicle from Lagos to Benin on Friday 24/4/2020 and on getting to Benin, he boarded another Vehicle to Asaba and thereafter from Asaba to Onitsha before getting to Enugu state.

He stated that the patient was heading to Ogbala in Ishieke community from Enugu before he was apprehended by the COVID 19 Task Force in Ebonyi LGA .

According to Umahi, Emeka’s samples was sent for Laboratory Test and the result came out positive adding that all the 4-close contacts tested negative.

The patient according to him (Umahi) is currently on a Isolation centre where he is being quarantined, adding that treatment has also commenced on him at the Centre.

The Governor further emphasized on the need to maintain social distances, washing of hands and covering of faces with facemasks to avert the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

He tasked security agencies and other paramilitary organizations to double their efforts at the border areas to avert the influx of foreigners into the state.
