Clash by rival groups claims one in Ebonyi

A 26-year-old man, Chinedu Nwali, who was injured in last week’s clash in Agubia village in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has died.

He died in a hospital in Enugu, Enugu State, on Monday, from the gunshot injuries he sustained in the clash between two rival groups in the community.

At least five persons were injured and hospitalised, while three houses and three cars were burnt in the clash.

The groups, it was gathered, clashed over the control of one of the biggest motor parks in the community.

According to a police source, the injured persons were first rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, but were transferred to an undisclosed hospital in Enugu.

It was also gathered that homes and vehicles belonging to some of the leaders of the motor parks were set ablaze by the youth.

The spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed Nwali’s death.

She stated that six persons had been arrested and charged over the clash.
