Two Die, Others Hospitalised of Electrocution in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command, on Thursday, confirmed the death of two persons of electrocution at the Kings Agro Factory located on Nise Street in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The victims, whose names were simply given as Justice and Usulor Chukwudi, hailed from the Ezza North and Ikwo local government areas of the state, respectively.

The incident, Southern City News gathered, also affected two other persons, who were currently receiving treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Loveth Odah, said Justice and Chukwudi died at the AE-FUTHA, while the other two persons were currently receiving treatment in the same hospital.

It was further gathered that the victims are staff of the Kings Agro Factory.

They were working with their boss, Onyebuchi Anworo, when the ladder they were working with fell on top of naked electric wire.

The police spokesperson stated, “It was 6pm on Friday, July 26, 2019, that one Onyebuchi Anworo of Ukwuansi Street, Abakalki, an engineer with Aguegbo Chisco Aluminium Company, came to the Eke-Aba Central Police Station and reported that on the same date, while they were fixing widows at the Kings Agro Factory on Nise Street by the Afikpo Road, in company with four of his workers, a metal ladder, which they used in working, fell on a naked electric wire and electrocuted four of the workers, who became unconscious.

“The victims were rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. The victims are Akochi Chineme from the Ezza South LGA; Onwe Emmanuel; Usulor Chukwudi of the Ezza North LGA; and one Justice from the Ikwo LGA.”

“He said two of them were confirmed dead at the FETHA, while the other two were responding to treatment. The DPO led operatives to the area, visited the scene of the crime and the hospital, and the two others are in stable condition.

“Onyebuchi was taken to the police station for questioning and the matter is under investigation to ascertain if there was a foul play.”
